The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion Customers Reviews
Kinda "Meh"
Gin Blossoms and Toad the Wet Sprocket were exactly what I expected. A handful of songs I knew from each mixed with stuff I didn't really know. That's fine, all good, no problem.
BNL was just "meh", though. They played way too much new stuff and not nearly enough of the older, "good" stuff. They even made jokes about how unenthusiastic the crowd was when they announced that they were going to do a song from their most recent album, but apparently couldn't take a hint. The audience would stand and sing along to good stuff like "Brian Wilson" and "Odds Are", but the entire crowd would just sit down for any of their newer stuff.
I've been a fan of BNL since 94 and absolutely wore out copies of Gordon, Maybe You Should Drive, Born on a Pirate Ship, Stunt, Maroon, Everything to Everyone, and Barenaked Ladies Are Me, but out of 22 songs on the set list, I only knew 8 -- Including the "Big Bang Theory" theme song which nobody really wants to hear. This was probably my sixth or seventh BNL concert and will probably be my last. That's a shame, because I really used to enjoy their shows.
And finally... we get it, Jim Creegan is a good bassist. Still, nobody wants to hear a bass solo. Ever.
